It's official...

Well, it's official... Gracie has decided on a name for her service pup.  If it's a boy it will be Max William. If it's a girl it will be Lacey Joy.  She is so excited about getting this service dog.  Each time she tests and sees that she is too high or too low she giggles and says something about when her dog is here, she won't be having this problem.  I'm so happy that she understands all of this and is excited about it.  Since she is only 7, I was concerned that she wouldn't realize that her service dog has an important job to do.  Boy, was I ever wrong about that:)

Gracie's Journey from a diabetic baby to a little girl with diabetes

Miss Gracie ~ after a week in the PICU, she's ready to go home and live life with Type 1 Diabetes

A very sick Miss Gracie ~ her blood sugar level was over 1000 the day she was diagnosed. She was too sick to even be able to hold up her little head.

Sweet Miss Gracie ~ the day her pancreas began to shut down

Sweet Miss Gracie ~ just a few weeks before her diagnosis with Type 1 diabetes

Miss Gracie~ Perfectly healthy, sweet baby girl

The adventure begins:)  Gracie has lived just about her entire little life with Type 1 Diabetes after being diagnosed at only 14 months old.  Now after 6 years she is getting a new partner in her daily battle to stay alive... a 4 legged, wet nose, soft, furry service pup.  Her Diabetes Alert Dog (DAD) will help her realize when she is out of range and her blood sugar is too high or too low before she realizes it herself.  This service dog will help prevent the seizures and coma that as a Type 1 she is prone too and will hopefully help to prevent the long term complications of her disease such as heart problems, amputations, blindness, etc.  Follow along on Gracie's journey to getting her DAD and after as they work together to keep her healthy and strong.
